2019 marks the 46th annual meeting of HBCU rivals Southern University and Grambling State University: The Bayou Classic is a football game and so much more! The Bayou Classic commemorates historically black colleges and universities, academic achievement, tradition, sportsmanship, marching bands, and friendly competition.
The “Classic” is an exhibition of the high standards of academic achievement deeply embedded in the traditions of the two institutions. Since 1991, the Bayou Classic has been televised nationally by NBC. The national broadcast attracts an audience of four to five million viewers. The Bayou Classic draws more than 250,000 visitors to New Orleans.

What Is The Bayou Classic?
This annual extravaganza features one of America's greatest college sports rivalries, bringing the fans and alumni of Southern University and Grambling State University to New Orleans each November for a celebration of football, family and the traditions and pageantry surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

The weekend kicks off with the Friday night "Battle of the Bands," a showdown between the Grambling and Southern. Southern's Other activities include a Greek Show, job fair, parties, seminars, exhibits and community service events. Don't forget that they ultimate Half Time Battle Of The Bands Show.
